An embittered woman, Arlene Heartnick believed her mere existence was never her own, having to give up her dreams and goals for a life she didn’t expect nor wanted. After finally escaping an authoritarian environment, she married at 18 years old and was determined to make something of herself.
Only her plans were cut short when she became pregnant unexpectedly, one year into her marriage, against all odds and years of being told she would not be able to conceive. Going against her best judgment, wanting her marriage to work and new husband to be happy, she decided to go ahead with the pregnancy and the three others’ that followed.
Finding herself in a place of desperation and loneliness, Arlene decided to walk away from it all after finding out her husband had been cheating, lying and a drawer full of unpaid bills, leaving her four daughters in the process.
In her mind, letting it go was the only way to avoid the torment she had endured her entire life. The emotional abuse that came from the men in her life was too much to handle, sending her into spiraling events over the next several years.
Twenty years later is when her past finally catches up with her and the harsh reality of what she left behind when she learns someone has been looking for her. Discovering the genuine meaning behind unconditional love and forgiveness and realizing her actual purpose in life was always right there.
It is one thing to walk away from our current surroundings, but it is another to flee from reality. A certainty at most that ones’ shadow can never escape the truth.
